Dr. Irving is a clinical psychologist whose practice is focused on the prevention and treatment of workplace burnout, mindfulness-based psychotherapies, and cognitive behavioural therapy for mood and anxiety related difficulties. She completed her Ph.D. at McGill University studying burnout in physicians in the Faculty of Medicine’s Programs in Whole Person Care. Her clinical psychology residency at Penn Medical and Princeton Medical Centres included training in eating disorders and mood, anxiety, and concurrent disorder treatment.

Dr. Irving completed a two-year clinical/research postdoctoral fellowship in the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Clinic at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) (2011-2013); her research focused on understanding the mechanisms that underpin change in mindfulness-based therapies and the prevention of depressive relapse. Following her postdoc she helped found the award winning Integrated Care Pathway for Depression and Alcohol in the CAMH Addiction Medicine Service as the Psychology Lead. Dr. Irving is currently a supervising psychologist in the Translational Addictions Research Lab at CAMH. She is a published peer-reviewed author and an Adjunct Lecturer in the Departments of Psychiatry, Applied Psychology, and Psychological Clinical Science at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Irving enjoys working with students and trainees and has taught workshops on CBT, burnout prevention in health care, mindfulness-based therapies and addictions treatments at health centres across Canada and the United States. She additionally provides commentary for media outlets including The Globe and Mail and Global News. Dr. Irving has a special interest in working with individuals in professions that are considered high-risk for burnout and adults who have a recent diagnosis of ADHD. She provides assessment and treatment in these areas as well as therapy for relationship issues, caregivers experiencing burnout, social anxiety, mood disorders, and support during pregnancy and post-partum.
